Child Safety Standards
OtterFriend standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation
Last revised: September 18, 2026 • Effective immediately
Zero tolerance for CSAE and CSAM
OtterFriend is an adults-only dating app. We have a zero-tolerance policy for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and child sexual abuse material (CSAM). These standards apply to everyone who uses OtterFriend, including members, hosts, and guests, and describe how we prevent, detect, report, and remove this content and behaviour.
1. Who may use OtterFriend
OtterFriend is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. Every account must provide a date of birth during onboarding, and we block onboarding and access for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly allow minors to create or keep an account. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we remove the account and its content.
2. Prohibited content and behaviour
The following are strictly prohibited on OtterFriend and will result in removal and a permanent ban, and where appropriate referral to law enforcement:
- Any child sexual abuse material (CSAM), including photos, videos, drawings, or links.
- Grooming, sexual solicitation, or sexualised contact involving a minor.
- Sextortion, coercion, or threats involving a minor or anyone’s intimate images.
- Trafficking, exploitation, or the commercial sexual exploitation of minors.
- Sharing, requesting, or promoting any of the above, including “jokes” or coded references.
3. How we prevent and detect it
- 18+ age gate at onboarding, with access blocked when a date of birth is under 18.
- Automated content filtering on profile, date, and application text, with violations blocked and logged.
- Photo review and removal controls, plus reporting and blocking on every profile, date, and chat.
- Chats only open after a host accepts an applicant, which limits unsolicited contact.
- In-person dates take place at curated, public partner venues, with an Otter Ticket for check-in.
- Human review of reports by the OtterFriend safety team, with escalation for child safety.
4. How to report child safety concerns
You can report child safety concerns in two ways:
- In the app: use Report on any profile, date, message, or wave and choose the safety reason that fits. Reports are reviewed by our safety team.
- By email: write to [email protected] with “Child safety” in the subject. Include any usernames, links, or screenshots that help us act.
If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
5. How we respond
- We review child safety reports as a priority and act on confirmed violations.
- We remove violating content and permanently ban the accounts involved.
- We preserve relevant records and report apparent CSAM and child exploitation to the appropriate authorities, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement where required.
- We cooperate with valid legal requests and child protection investigations.
- We may remove or restrict an account while an investigation is underway.
6. Reporting to authorities
We report apparent child sexual abuse material and child exploitation to NCMEC through its reporting channels and to law enforcement as required by applicable law. We also support partners and members in contacting local authorities or child protection services where they are based.
7. Data retention for safety
When an account is reported or removed for a child safety violation, we retain the relevant records for as long as needed to support investigations, legal obligations, and the safety of our community, and then delete them. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle personal data.
8. Child safety point of contact
OtterFriend designates a child safety point of contact for CSAE/CSAM matters. Reach us at [email protected] and we will route your message to the person responsible for child safety.
9. Changes to these standards
We review these standards regularly and update them as our product, laws, or industry practices change. The “Last revised” date above shows the current version. These standards are published publicly at otterfriend.app/safety.
